While drilling in a busy retail site, the driller’s helper was almost struck by a car that was parked in a parking space.

While walking across the site, the helper passed behind a car that had just parked in a parking space.  As he passed, the car driver decided to back out of the space at an accelerated rate without looking behind his car.  The helper was almost hit by the car, but his awareness of his surroundings and time to escape the situation saved him. 

Be Aware of your Surroundings:  This stresses the reason we should always stay aware of our surroundings.  The helper did the right thing and noticed the car in time to avoid being hit.

First Move Forward: This near miss also shows the importance of “first move forward”.  For whatever reason the driver decided to leave in a hurry, and was unaware of the helper behind the car.  If the drive had used first move forward, the helper would likely not have been put in this situation.
